ACCESSwhat we face
Our current healthcare system fails to address the structural factors impacting our individual and community health and our ability to make choices toward health
Less than 20% of our health is determined by clinical care, instead it is is shaped by structural factors like housing, safety, economic opportunities, access to fresh and nourishing food, connections to nature, transportation options and work-life balance. For historically under-privileged groups and racial minorities, systemic inequities and institutionalized racism further limit their ability to make healthy choices.

It takes a village! Together, we can transform the culture of health care
Austin Health Commons will deliver Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation in the three mile radius surrounding Karisha Community Center for Wellness, a 14,000 SF prototype health and healing center in development in Central East Austin.
We will invite neighbors onto our future healing site to cultivate our food forest, plant our edible gardens, engage in contemplative practices and mindful fitness, learn about food as medicine, and develop resilience in Conscious Community.
